Wednesday 15th: packing, leaving Nottingham, Joey Defrancesco

I woke up a bit late and then finished my packing. It was a bit frantic and I had way too much stuff. I just managed to squash it all into my suitcase. I weighed the suitcase later and it came out at 33kg. Really heavy.

I said goodbye to the girls from D-Block and then got in the taxi to leave. I was still feeling a bit sad and also quite sleep deprived.

The train journey was quite a delirious one. I was very tired. I think that when I come again I will get a smaller suitcase. It is interesting to learn these things. My suitcase wouldn't fit in the space on the train so I had to drag it through the aisle of the train a few carriages to try and sort something out. I had to walk backwards with my backpack on my back dragging the suitcase and I was very tired, so I somehow managed to bump into a lady who was a little upset about that.

I managed to find a space for a wheelchair in the next carriage so I left my suitcase there and then found a seat.

I got into London and then found my hostel. It was nice because I chose the hostel to be close to the train station where I came in on. But the hostel is a bit strange looking. It is called Generator Hostel. It seems to be very very big. Lots of rooms. Lots of strange people walking around. Blue lights everywhere. The room is quite small. In my room is a strange guy. But I met two American guys from Washington DC who seem to be quite nice. I rested in the hostel for a while and then went to see the concert at Ronnie Scott's.

The concert was alright but not great. This was the third night of Joey Defrancesco playing in Ronnie Scott's and I think he looked quite tired and not very interested. Also they didn't have a real B3 organ. They had a new copy of the instrument, that just mimicks the sound of the original, because the originals cost $50,000 each, at least. The piano player looked quite tired too, and I think that towards the end, the piano player made a really tired attempt at a solo, and then Joey Defrancesco decided that was enough, and then they left the stage. But there were some alright moments in the concert. I had a position where I could see Joey Defrancesco really clearly, and his hands and stuff. They moved very quickly. The drummer did some interesting things too. They did a thing where the drummer plays 4 bars of solo, and then someone else does another 4, and then back to the drummer etc. The drummer on one of his goes, just hit the drum once, and surprised everyone by doing that. Joey Defrancesco liked it too. Also, at one point Joey Defrancesco called someone from the crowd who he apparently knew. That guy stood by the microphone at the front and then sang as a song with them all backing it. He was a really amazing singer.

I then went back to the hostel and slept.
