Saturday 18th, 20th: Moving hostels, tired

I've been really inactive in London, and it's a bit disappointing. But I'm feeling very tired and I've also become a bit sick. I've caught some kind of cold which might also be some kind of mild flu or something. So I've decided to just take it easy for a while. I still have 3 weeks of travelling to come, and I've seen some of London before and I have not seen any of the US. I want to be well for this.

I had to change hostel again today because I booked the london hostels really late so that it was difficult to get long stays at places. I was going to the Astor Kensington today. I caught the tube to Gloucester Street station. On the train I was feeling quite tired and everything. The previous night I'd met this American guy in the hostel. Jessie from Kentucky. He has a very crazy accent. He seems like a kind of nice guy, but it turns out that he's really really loud and annoying. He was up at 5am drinking with his friends in the room and yelling and singing and telling people the others that he didn't care about the sleeping people. So I didn't get a very good sleep. Then on the train I was tired. I almost got stuck in the train door as I went to get out. It was absurd.

I got to the hostel. It looks nice. I was too early to check in so I just spent some time on the couch on the internet. It was nice to relax.

For these days I didn't do too much. I was really sick. But I met some interesting people at the hostel. I met some Australian people. The hostel is full of them. I think half the people here are Australian. A few are from Adelaide. I met a girl from Toronto in Canada who is quite nice. I was sitting on the couch talking to these people and then there was a girl from Korea next to me. She had just finished a student exchange as well. Then I noticed her jumped looked something like University of Nottingham but I couldn't quite see. It turns out she was at that university as well. She was at Cripps hall which is close to me. She was friends with some people from the same hall as me, who I was also kind of friends with. It's really strange. I met a guy from Spain. He seems like quite an interesting guy. He says that he is obsessed with the idea that people can do a lot more than they currently do. He was telling me that he felt a bit sad the previous night when lots of people were drinking in the kitchen. He said that the people were kind of really uninspiring because they didn't have any ideas or interest in anything about the world or anything like that. I thought that was really cool because I think a similar thing sometimes, and it's kind of interesting. He said a nice compliment to me that he thought I seemed like quite a different person who could be really innovative in different things etc, and I really appreciated this compliment. I hope I can live up to something like that. I think that hostels are good places to meet interesting people.

I cooked a lot of pizza at this hostel. They have an oven. The supermarket is just a short walk away.

I also bought two magazines while here. I bought BBC History. I've become a lot more interested in history after having been to the places where the things happened. I also bought the New Scientist magazine because I felt like learning about what's going on with things around the place. Apparently there are several metal elements which are the basis for a lot of technological things which have just recently become very in-demand due to new technology, but mining companies are not really sure where deposits of these things are located, because they are often a by-product from mining other things, and that for several of these substances, the supply will soon become critical.

In the afternoon on the 20th I went for a nice walk through Hyde Park. It was raining a little bit which made it really atmospheric. I listened to Thom Yorke's album and Keith Jarrett's Sapporo concert from the Sun Bear collection. It was really good. I had some nice thoughts about things.
