July 5th: hanging around, July 6th: going for a walk

July 5th:

I'm not really sure what I did on this day. I think it's fairly certain that I stayed in. I was feeling fairly travelled out. Travelling around really takes it out of you I think, and I just had a huge yearning to do nothing for at least a while...

July 6th:

I managed to drag myself out at some point. I don't think I really felt like seeing the city, since I'd seen quite a bit of city recently, with Washington DC and New York... So I took a little stroll over to the park that's in the area. It's got some nice trees there, and squirrels.

While in the park, I read a little bit more on my Kindle. I was reading the book that I think is called "The Heart Of Darkness". It's about a guy who felt like some adventure, so decided to join a company operating in Africa, during all of the imperialism stuff there. He is hired to operate a steamboat up and down a river. But he then learns that the whole world down there is madness and it turns everyone down there mad and he has to escape before he gets killed or gets sucked into the whole thing himself. It was interesting.
Walking to the park thing. The roads here have no footpath! Even in the suburbs where you'd expect people to walk around! The Texan guy I met in Washington DC said that in the US, if you don't have a car, you're kind of a 'loser'. It's quite different to England and Europe where you can kind of walk everywhere.

I did some reading on the grass before checking out the trees and stuff.

Squirrel. They were burrying nuts I think.

Me.

A deer.

Weird bug.

Dead thing.

Power cables.

I think I got back and then I went into the city with Age and his friend the guy that took us to the hotel lobby toilets on July 4th. We went into a park near the city where they had an outdoor cinema. On the way we got some food from Subway. They had a special on. Before the movie started, there were people who stood at the front and said some things to the audience since I think it was the last movie for the season or something. Then they fired t-shirts at the audience through t-shirt guns. I thought that was pretty amazing. Age says they bring out t-shirt guns quite often at events in the US.

The movie was Sherlock Holmes. It was a bit strange because they started the movie when the sun was still up. We were a bit confused by that. So the first 15 minutes or so was a bit difficult to understand what was going on. But it was a pretty good movie.

Age says that the last time they came there to see a movie, there was an incident where a guy accidentally lost control of his car momentarily, which may have brought him and the car rolling onto the pedestrian area, I think, so then a police man shot at the guy driving the car. I think the guy may have died in hospital but I can't remember.
