July 3rd: getting into Nashville, sleeping a bit, Walmart, guns, thai food

I'm writing these blogs very late. November 12th. It took me a while to catch up to where the last blog was written. Then I was in Australia. Then I became a bit distracted with university and other stuff.

At the end of the last blog I was on a bus from Washington D.C. . I was headed to Nashville to stay with my Aunty and Uncle. The bus ride was 16 hours in total. I think it's kind of fun to experience those things sometimes.

In the middle of the night on the way to Nashville we reached a city somewhere on the edge of Tennessee I think and we had to get out and switch to a different bus. Maybe it was in West Virginia, or Virginia... I met some interesting people on the bus. There were two brothers who were travelling down to Texas. They were about 50. One spoke in a very drawling way, like his lungs were broken. I didn't get much sleep because I had to sit next to a guy for most of the way. He got off at Knoxville which was just a few hours before Nashville. As dawn came around we drove near, or through, the Smoky Mountains although I didn't know that's what they were until I got to Nashville and talked to my Auntie. They were filled with fog. It looked really nice. It's on the edge of the Appalacian mountain range. Also with the coming of morning, I think I witnessed a guy on the bus try to attempt some kind of perverted action on one lady. She was asleep and he seemed to stop by her row, after having been to the toilet, and then he attempted to move her clothes or something. Maybe she moved, because he moved along... I don't really know what else he could have been doing. I read some websites where people said that things like that might happen. Overall I think the buses were alright. But stuff apparently happens.

I got into Nashville. I was quite worried because the bus was delayed at one point. That happened in the middle of the night while we were stopped somewhere else to refuel. I just heard vague references that we were a bit off schedule. So I tried to ask one of the employees about it but he was extremely stressed out and pretty much just shouted at me when I tried to figure out how late the delay would make us! I was really tired/half asleep so I was unable to phrase a logically correct sentence to express my question. The guy seemed to think that was reasonable excuse to not give a reasonable answer and he was quite angry about everything in general, so I was very confused about when I would come into Nashville. He'd been awake for a long time, so, I think he was just struggling. I was also confused by time zones. I had tried to send a message to my Aunty, since I'd be arriving early in the morning, but wasn't really sure if that went through... It turned out that the bus was fairly well on time. I was at the bus station for about 5 minutes and then I saw Jill and Age, my Aunty and Uncle, arrive into the parking lot.

They were very tired. It was fairly early in the morning and I think I had forgotten that they're not really morning people... whoops. We got going, along some highways, past the city, to their house. It was a crazily hot day. I think it might have been a record temperature. The bus was a bit smelly, my clothes were sweaty, it was very hot and humid, and I was very tired. But it was also really bizarre being with people I'm related to again. It made me reminded a bit that I'd be home soon. It was a strange feeling.

We got to their house and it's a really nice house. The air conditioner also works really well. They had a room that I could stay in. A room to myself with a door. It was fairly amazing.

I was very tired, and so were they, so we all slept for a few hours...

I woke up and then a while later I think we went driving to see some places. I think we went past some very expensive houses where music writers/musicians/other people lived. It was really cool seeing a bit of suburban America. So far I'd only seen areas of New York and Washington D.C. which are a bit different. We also visited a park. The trees are really similar to stuff in Europe. Australia is an anomaly. Then, I think we visited Wal-Mart and a sports store to get some stuff. In the sports store, we had a look at their gun collection. It was absolutely ridiculous; shotguns, hand guns, rifles, ammunition, all ready to purchase, next to running shoes and t-shirts. Then I think we went back home.

I think Age brought out his bb gun and we shot that out the back. I was pretty nervous with the thing. I didn't want to shoot myself or anyone else in the eye! I'm not used to guns... But it was pretty fun.

Earlier in the day the temperature came up as 46 degrees celsius! It was crazy.

A bit later, we went over to a neighbour's house. They were going over there to eat Thai food. I met some people there. They were all really nice people! The thai food was good. It was a kind of thai soup. I haven't had that type of thai food before. It was good. Afterwards, a guy showed me some of his guns. They were incredible.

We drank some beer and went home after a while. Their neighbour has a really cool outdoor area with screens to stop bugs getting in. It was still fairly warm and humid. It was a nice atmosphere. There was controversy about the next day. Someone's fiance somewhere was demanding that a canoo trip would start early in the day. Age and others enacted a boycott of that, so we were just going to start a little early next day at 11 or so.
