On this day I woke up feeling pretty fatigued. It was clear that I definitely was coming into some kind of sickness, and I wasn't very pleased with that.
I woke up to the sound of people hammering loudly in the room directly above at 8:30am. I thought that was a bit much! Also, during my time at this hostel I've noticed that everyone is wearing very neat and proper clothes. Not the usual kind of laid back people usually found in hostels (this hostel says it's a "boutique hostel"). And the people all seem pretty grim and there is no kitchen. So I'm not really enjoying this hostel at all. I'm looking forward to moving on.
However, I did meet one nice guy. 'Johnny' who is in the same room. He is from Virginia and seems to be visiting perhaps at the request of a lady that he worked on once. He's a massager. He's quite friendly and said that he couldn't sleep the night before because he's worrying about the world and everything. So he's a bit of a "hippy" I guess. He gave me some things of cream that are supposed to relieve muscle pain. They're completely natural, he assured me. Nice guy.
Since I was feeling pretty awful I decided I'd get some clothes washed. Now I can wear clean clothes. Yay!
After sitting around for a while I decided I should drag myself out. I decided to check out the Camden Markets since they're nearby. It is only two suburbs over, but unfortunately the train tracks didn't work out to make it a straightforward journey. I had to change trains twice. At the first change, I'm sure I got onto the station that said it was going a certain direction, but it turned out to go the opposite. So I had to get off at the next station and then go back. Somehow I ended up being on five separate trains. But I got there eventually.
Camden seems to be a bit of an alternative district. As I was walking up the street, a shady character whispered something, perhaps to me. I thought he might be a bit crazy so I ignored him, but then looked back as I was a few metres past. He was looking straight at me, with this subtle "well??" expression, as if he'd made me some kind of offer. I think he was trying to sell me drugs. I kept walking, and then looked back again a few more metres later. He was still looking. This time with a slightly perplexed expression but still as if there was some kind of offer that I might take up.
Interesting people at the Camden Markets
There is a canal in this district. This is the first canal I've seen!
The markets start almost from the underground station of "Camden Town", and progress along the street and out from there into various spaces, alleys, and other places.
This place sells vintage clothing. There are a few of these stores in this area. I think this area of the markets is known as the "stables". Awesome structure for a market.
More canal. I also apparently captured these scooter seats.
Me feeling pretty sick.
At another shop, the guy tried to have me believe that since they don't receive commission, and that he buys the jackets all himself, that he really doesn't care if I buy one or not. His phrase was "your win or your loss. If you leave without buying one then you've made a loss." My tactic with this one was to just nod at all his blabberings (there were a lot), and then walk out when I was done. Worked alright.
At another shop, I was interested to see if they had red coloured leather jackets. He took one off the wall that clearly had only female jackets. I told him my suspicions and he assured me they were for males, or at the least were unisex. The bottom of the jacket barely reached below my ribs. hmmm. He asked how long I wanted it..... I told him "at least to my hips....... "
I found a small leather pouch thing to put coins in. They still use 1p and 2p coins here, so you can acquire quite a lot.
I went home and got a reasonable sleep.
